Have you ever been compelled to do something you’ve never done before? That happened to me when I joined Holy Cross-Immaculata Parish on Mt. Adams near downtown Cincinnati eleven years ago. I became involved in parish activities including reorganizing the church’s historical archives. They contained a lot of unconnected information including diaries, photographs, scrapbooks, newspaper articles and church bulletins. I learned Immaculata Church would be celebrating it’s one-hundred-fiftieth birthday in 2009, so why not bring all the information together in a book reflecting the rich history of the church? I’d never written a book but I decided to take on the project and it became a labor of love, not just for me, but for all those who helped by doing research, sitting for interviews, proof reading, editing, identifying people in old photographs, book design and photography.
If you enjoy Cincinnati history, this book is for you. It contains information never before published, dispels legends and folklore long associated with Immaculata and includes a chapter on the Cincinnati tradition of praying the Immaculata steps on Good Friday. The book is one-hundred-eighty pages long, has over one-hundred-forty photographs and images, a section of color photographs and an extensive appendix, time line, bibliography and index. It’s hard cover, would be right at home on your coffee table and is priced at $29.95. All proceeds after expenses will be donated to Immaculata Church.
